Athinoelia Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Harvest: 2021
Country / Region: Greece
Intensity: Robust
Description: Produced in the Greek province of Lakonia, a region in the southeastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula, the Athinoelia is rare, but also considered one of the oldest varieties in Greece. It has a very smooth and balanced flavour profile, and is often combined with the better-known Greek variety, the Koroneiki, to create a unique and distinct olive oil. Here however, we are able to experience the Athinoelia in its complete beauty: as a single varietal, pure, and divine! This is an early harvest example from Greece, harvested in early October; this variety matures slowly and is typically collected in late December through January. The Oleocanthal content for this oil measures at 134ppm.
Tasting Profile / Serving Suggestions: This rare Greek variety is very balanced and packs a pleasant and lingering peppery finish. On the palate it displays a slight bitterness, and savoury notes of creamy artichoke and green almond. This is a stunning example of the Athinoelia varietal and it is sure to please. Great over all types of salads, vegetable dishes, fish, and soups. A versatile olive oil for all palates.
