Athinoelia Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Harvest: 2019

Country / Region: Greece

Intensity: Mild - Medium

Description: Produced in the Greek province of Lakonia, a region in the southeastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula, the Athinoelia is rare, but also considered one of the oldest varieties in Greece. It has a very smooth and balanced flavour profile, and is often combined with the better-known Greek variety, the Koroneiki, to create a unique and distinct olive oil. Here however, we are able to experience the Athinoelia in its complete beauty: as a single varietal, pure, and divine! This is an extremely early harvest example from Greece, harvested in early November; this variety matures slowly and is typically collected in late December through January.

Tasting Profile / Serving Suggestions: This rare Greek variety is very balanced but packs a nice peppery finish. On the palate it displays creamy with notes of dried herbs and pine nut. It is fragrant and malty and pleasantly delicate. With its very low bitterness this wonderful Greek olive oil is sure to please. Great over all types of salads, vegetable dishes, fish, and soups. A versatile olive oil for all palates.
