Correggiola Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Harvest: 2023
Country / Region: Australia
Intensity: Medium
Description: An Italian variety by origin which performs quite well in Australia and is closely related to the classic Italian Frantoio. This uncommon Italian variety is a more complex version of its relative the Frantoio, but shares some of the same characteristics of that variety. The Correggiola variety was first planted in Australia in the 1800s. The tree is very productive, but needs another olive tree to cross-pollinate with, such as the Coratina, Leccino or Pendolino. It produces small to medium-sized olives from 2g to 3g each, and with a high oil content. Other names used for this olive variety include Correggiolo and Raggiolo.
Tasting Profile / Serving Suggestions: The Correggiola displays notes of crisp green apple peel and fresh cut grass give way to a malty, savoury herb center with hints of nutmeg. This uncommon Italian variety is a more complex version of its relative the Frantoio, but shares some of the same characteristics of that variety. It works well with vegetables of all varieties, legumes and beans, salads and fish!
